FARM

The Santa Caterina farm, which has been in operation since 1984, has about sixty hectares of land under crops and a number of separate farm buildings located in the municipalities of Cento (FE), Pieve di Cento, San Giovanni in Persiceto and San Pietro in Casale (BO). 

The crops are diversified over different years. Part of the land is organically farmed according to a CCPB certified method.  

In recent years, we have organically farmed about four hectares of pear orchards (including the “Abate Fetel” pear, IGP Emilia Romagna) and a woodland area with recovered traditional fruit varieties (“Abbondanza” apple, “San Giovanni” pear, “Reale di Imola” apricot, etc. …). 

We have also dedicated a part of the land area to the organic cultivation of pumpkins, alternated in rotation with common wheat, barley and soya. 

In some parts of the farm are poplar groves and large ponds, formerly used for the maceration of hemp (and therefore called “maceri”). On the Monteborre estate, the large fenced-in “macero” accommodates a small hen house. The hens’ eggs are not sold but used by our own family.     

In 2018, it was decided to use a piece of land already certified as organic to plant a vineyard with the “Pinot Blanc” grape variety. This will enable us to further diversify by adding wine to our range of agricultural products. Currently, with the collaboration of a company specializing in organic processing, we use our products to make purees, juices and jams.
